What I didn't know...

Learning how computers operate by using 2 digits only: one and zero was mind blowing to me. I'm still having trouble understanding the enormous capabilities we have accomplished throughout the years and the way that computers rationalize all the information by using a combination of those two digits. This System is called binary and the computer uses it all the time.
I found this video online and it helped further understand the Binary System.

Computers need information so they can proceed with our commands. This digital information or data is made up of something called bits. Bits can be combined and create larger units like bytes, megabytes, and so on. I found this information fascinating and I will keep practicing to properly learn how to convert decimal numbers to binary.

  1. The binary system is cool!

The difference between how the binary system calculates (by a computing device) vs. how the base 10 calculates (by human) will be a topic for Bonus Quiz 4 ^_^

I will definitely cover this in an upcoming lecture/presentation to my students :-)

  2. No matter how many times I try to wrap my head around how 1s and 0s work, it blows my brain even more.

  3. I am truly amazed by the fact that just 2 numbers are able to communicate within our devices and create information. I would also like to keep learning on how to properly convert binary numbers.

  5. When I first learn about binary numbers, it scared me a little. I thought, as a Computer Science major, that I would need to learn them all. Thankfully, I know now that I won't need to. Still a very cool system though.

  6. Every time the binary system is brought up, I feel I learn something new about it each time. It is amazing to think someone came up with this, and I am honestly still blown away to this day. What this system has brought to our future has been impressive to say the least.

  7. Learning how binary numbers work is impressive. I still need some help with writing them out. I usually miss a step in the process. I'll figure it out at some point.

  9. I am not good with numbers in any sense. While this is extremely fascinating, I'm with Wayne, this blows my mind.

  10. when I was in computer science in high school and we started the subject on binary it was favorite part and it's amazing how we even got it to work with 1's and 0's

  11. I think it is really interesting how computers read just by reading 0 or 1. It is crazy to think.

  12. It is impressive how a system uses only two figures to represent all numbers. I liked learning about it.
