It was so great to learn the differences between the web applications and the desktop versions. Web applications require an Internet connection and use a web browser as a runtime environment. On the other hand, desktop applications are installed on a computer and run locally. To resume, if you are looking for mobility and flexibility, choosing a web service is the way to go. If on the other hand, your concern is functionality, desktop programs will be better.

ReplyDeleteI have a different take from what you took away from 3.1.8 Desktop vs. Web Applications. Instead of mobility vs. security, I would say mobility vs. functionality.
ReplyDeleteWith Microsoft Office applications, the desktop versions are the actual software installed and have full functionalities and features. The web version of Microsoft Office are used through a browser with some functionalities and features missing or at least not easily found.
Many software applications are written/constructed based on a specific operating system (e.g. Windows, MacOS) so the web version of that application will have a different user-interface and likely less functionalities and features as they are not able to be reproduced by browsers.
Personally, the desktop applications are easier to use since it's the full version of the application. However, I hate installing things to my computer. If I don't need to use the application often, I'll stick to what takes less energy to access.
ReplyDeleteEven though the online version is mor mobile and allows me to use the program on different devices, I think desktop applications are better because they don't require another username and password for me to remember.
ReplyDeleteAlthough desktop programs have confidentiality web applications are more convenient. I would say I prefer convenience and definitely use web applications more.
ReplyDeleteI like using the web application lot because of the convenient.
ReplyDeleteI've always disliked depending on any internet connection related to a program. Although there are quick and auto-save features built in, I feel more secure using the full desktop version. Not only do you not have to worry about internet connection, but you can work from anywhere. I believe it depends on your lifestyle and how easily you can access the web in your day-to-day life. There are pros and cons to both!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to use desktop applications when it comes to certain things. I enjoy the convenience of accessing applications on my phone but switch to my laptop or desktop when working from home.
